Malinda Laufs - Your stylist

In 1990 I started my hairdressing career at the Russell Road Technical College in Port Elizabeth.

During this time I did my apprenticeship at Curls Unisex Salon at the 6th Avenue Shopping Centre, Walmer.

On the 15th of March 1994 I received my Certificate of Qualification in Hairdressing from the Hairdressing and Cosmetology Industry Training Board.  In June 1994 I decided to spread my wings and relocated to Johannesburg.  There I worked at Shades Unlimited in Florida Johannesburg.

I missed Port Elizabeth and its people so much that I came back in 1995 and started at Cut Above in Greenacres.

In 1996 I decided to open my own salon, Unique Hair Salon, Newton Park for additional experience I temporary lectured at the Russell Road Technical College.

In 1997 I received a very generous offer and sold my salon.

I tried my hand at something different and opened my own Security Company.  I missed hairdressing so much that I joined Images 1 in 1999 as a stylist.  During the same year, Marieta Wessels and I opened the Images Training Academy and I became a part-time lecturer as well.

In 2001 I started to look for another challenge once again and I opened Malinda’s Unisex Salon in Newton Park, sharing premises with Michelle’s Unisex Salon around the corner from Fruit & Veg at Pickering Park.

This, however, did not satisfy my quest in becoming the best.  I wanted to learn and know more.  In September of 2001 I did a course in Indian Head Massage, but that was still not enough.

In November 2003, I was blessed with a baby boy and looked for something “quieter and less stressful”.

I joined Tina Scholtz, at the Potchefstroom Hair Academy as a manageress. This was of a short duration as I got involved with lecturing once again.

I got certified by the Tshwane North College as a Facilitator of Distance Education.

During my period here I did an Assessors and Moderators Courses and got registered with ETDP SETA as such.

I attended a New Era Extension Course as well as a ProStyle Educator Extension Course on ProHair Extensions. After receiving my certification I conducted these courses as a optional extra to the students.

In 2006 my husband decided that he was long enough out of the Eastern Cape and that it was time to move back to the sea.

I once again teamed up with Images 1 Hair Academy and worked as a full time lecturer for them at the Ray Mhlaba Training Centre (Skills Centre).

In 2007 I was approched by Advanced Hair Studio to work for them once again in Port Elizabeth branch.  Once again I worked for them for three and a half years. At this time we were situated in 6th Avenue Walmer and I moved our Branch in September 2009 to South End.

In August 2010 I decided to go on my own and work for myself currently situated at 34 Erasmus Drive, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth.
